From the desk of the Post 7288 Service Officer:
Greetings Comrades,
This is the first of many articles that I will be posting on a routine basis to keep everyone apprised of the latest information of worth to all veterans and veterans’ families. It is my intention to cover information on Legislative issues pending and supported by the VFW; current events hosted by local businesses and organizations that support veterans and veterans’ families; pertinent information concerning VA HEALTH, VA BENEFITS (comp & pen); VA CEMETERY/BURIAL. I hope you find this first article helpful.
VA TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT
The VA offers travel benefits under the Beneficiary Travel Program: Mileage and Common Carrier reimbursement, and special mode transportation to any VA authorized appointment.
If you’re traveling for a VA authorized health care appointment, including appointments for Comp & Pen exams, VA may reimburse you for travel costs, including mileage ($0.415 per mile), tolls, parking and pre-authorized meals and lodging up to 50% of the government employee rate, receipts should be provided to allow for processing, if you’re eligible. Your caregiver may be eligible for reimbursement as well.
For more information about how to file for travel reimbursement, visit VA’s beneficiary travel webpage at VA.gov or the Beneficiary Travel Self Service System (BTSSS). Additionally, seek assistance from your local VA Clinic in Supply, VA Medical Clinic, Wilmington, or your Brunswick County VSO, Bolivia.
And, I am always available to assist whenever I can.
Kris Thorsten
