Day of Service

- 6/24/2025

Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post 7288 and Auxiliary members lent a helping hand to the  Brunswick Center at Calabash as part of the VFW 4th Annual Day of Service.  Taking place across the nation and around the world, VFW Day of Service showcases veterans and auxiliary members banding together to make a difference in their communities. By combining resources and dedicating the month of May to service in their community, the VFW spotlights the ongoing commitment of veterans who continue to lead lives of service.

On  Friday, May 16, 2025 15 veterans, including the Department of North Carolina Commander, Annie Cummings, a Marine Veteran  and 4 Auxiliary members volunteered  a "day of Service" helping the Brunswick Center at Calabash  sort through piles of donations that had accumulated in their storage shed. The  Brunswick Center at Calabash is dedicated to promote the well-being and enhance the quality of life for all senior adults of Brunswick County. One way they accomplish this is through their Thrift Store. Volunteers sorted through bags and boxes uncovering hidden treasure that were organized, repackaged and loaded into several trucks for delivery to the Brunswick Senior Resources Thrift stores located at 10001 Beach drive in Calabash and 5302 Main Street in Shallotte. for more information, visit their web site at https://bsrincthrift.org/

"This was a fun activity. I enjoyed spending time with my fellow post members and seeing them hard at work for the community” said Cathy Milstead, President of the VFW Auxiliary. Several post members are regular volunteers at the thrift store. If you are a veteran that served in a foreign war zone or a family member of a veteran of foreign wars and are interested in joining the VFW, to continue your proud commitment to serving others, contact the VFW at 910-579-3577 for information about joining.
