Veterans Helping Veterans

VFW Calabash Post #7288 Commander Rick Arvonio says "The call went out and they answered!"

He refers to his email message to Post members sent out the morning of Monday, October 17th asking for monetary donations and household items and soon the household items and monetary donations came pouring in.  They came from not only the Post, the Auxiliary and the Men's auxiliary but from golf groups, churches and area residential developments. In a half day the monetary donations totaled a thousand dollars, a figure that's sure to grow. Needed household items also came quickly from all who heeded the VFW's call to help victims of Hurricane Matthew. The items, ranging from bottled water, blankets and toiletries to non-perishable food items and pet food and many more were brought in to the Post, located at 900 Carter Drive.  Commander Arvonio says our veterans and members of the community immediately stepped in to meet the need of veterans who lost homes, household items and in some cases everything they owned in the flooding that in many areas is not letting up.  It's a classic case of veterans helping veterans with the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Headquarters, the North Carolina State Department and local Posts such as VFW Calabash Post #7288 reaching out to help.
