Paws-Ability of Ocean Isle Beach, NC raises funds to assist local rescue groups and supports programs to improve animal welfare in Brunswick and New Hanover Counties.  Established in 2007 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, They are an all-volunteer organization. Paws-Ability  volunteers were educating the public about their program called "Paws Pantry”. They use donations to provide dog and cat food to area food shelters and meals on wheels. Their mission is to provide pet food for food insecure families in Brunswick county, to ensure pets remain with their owners and out of shelters. In 2023 over 10,000 Brunswick County families benefitted from this assistance.

All these organization work with animal shelters and community organizations to educate the public and help find forever homes for pets.

The VFW Calabash Post Auxiliary manned the kitchen serving snacks to visitors. About 30 people visited the fair and three dogs were adopted. Youngsters Scotty and Olivia Bennet, the 2023/24 VFW Calabash Post 7288 Buddy Poppy King and Queen, were one of the families adopting a dog. They renamed the puppy, Sadie. They already own a dog, but their parents Scott and Theresa Bennet said they love the idea of rescuing animals.

VFW Post 7288 Auxiliary Junior Vice president, Mike Cullinan, was pleased with the turn out, but spent some time talking to the rescue organizations. "We plan to do this again next year, and we have a number of ideas to make it better. For one thing we won’t pick a holiday weekend with so many other competing events.”
