Voice of Democracy

Frederick Walton - 2/27/2024

On Monday, January 8, 2024 officers and members of the The VFW Calabash Post 7288 and it’s Auxiliary were at the West Brunswick High School to present awards and scholarship checks to four 2023 Voice of Democracy winners. All four winners are members of the schools JROTC program.

Awards and checks were presented to; Brayden Griffith, first place winner; Giovanni Palmieri, second place; Ava Tarman, third place and Tristan Wilkie, fourth place. The top two winners advanced to the District competition where they tied for second place. Congratulations to all the winners.

This year nearly 1,000 students entered the contest from throughout North Carolina. The West Brunswick High school JROTC program has partnered with the Calabash Veterans of Foreign Wars, for several years, providing a number of winners over this time. The Calabash VFW is proud of our local winners and looks forward to a continued participation from the JROTC.

The VFW is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in our future generation. If you are a democracy-loving high school student interested in a college scholarship, consider entering the 2024 competition. When this years theme is announced, details will be available on www.vfw.org. The deadline is October 31, 2024.
