The VFW Calabash Post 7288 Auxiliary is excited to announce the kick-off of the 2024 "Young American Creative Patriotic Art contest”. The Contest is an annual competition open to all students, in grades 9 to12, attending public, private, parochial High School or home study programs in the United States, its territories and possessions, or dependents of U.S. military or civilian personnel in overseas schools. The Calabash Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary has been sponsoring a Patriotic Art Contest since 1979.Each year, more than 4,000 high school students from across the country participate in the VFW Auxiliary’s Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest, competing for local recognition and national scholarships totaling $37,000.
The VFW Calabash Post 7288 encourages budding high School artists to enter this years competition. The post works with art teachers at several local high schools. This year they would also like to hear from home school groups and encourage them to contact the Post for details about how to participate.The students are required to create an original work of art completed during the current school year. Each 2 dimentional entry must be on heavy paper or canvas. 3 dimensional entries may use media such as; paper, papier mâché, pottery, sculpture, fabric, wood, metalwork, etc. The Scholarship contest recognizes up-and-coming artists and encourage patriotism in youth.
Entries will be judged on the originality of concept, presentation and patriotism expressed; content of how it relates to patriotism and clarity of ideas; design technique; and total impact of work to the viewer.
